The aging athletic
facilities at Southwestern Randolph High School are in desperate
need of revitalization. Since the late 1970’s when many of the
facilities were constructed, the student body has grown from 500 to
nearly 1300. The outdated football stadium can no longer accommodate
the large crowds which attend our football games and special events such
as graduation.
With a seating capacity
of only 1800, it is now the smallest stadium in Randolph County
and the Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference. Our campus is also in great need of
parking for students and visitors to our athletic fields.
In 2004, a group of
concerned alumni, recognizing the pressing need for new facilities,
organized a second phase of the Cougar
Commitment Campaign to address the condition of all athletic
fields, and parking for those facilities. These efforts have culminated
into an organized plan to address these needs.
The plan is divided into three phases to be completed over the next
three years.
Southwestern Randolph
will soon be serving its third generation of students from the
communities of Farmer, Tabernacle, Jackson Creek, Cedar Grove, New
Hope, Seagrove, Pisgah, Erect, Whynot, and Black Ankle. Over the
years, the athletic program has provided our students with opportunities
to explore their athletic potential, while serving to bolster school
spirit and community pride. The athletic facilities here at our school
should be a positive reflection on the communities which it serves. We
want our athletes to be proud of our facilities. We want visitors to
know that we wholeheartedly support our students and their endeavors.
We are calling on
citizens of our communities, businesses which serve these communities,
alumni and
Cougar
sports fans to step forward and support this much needed and long
overdue fund-raising effort. If everyone helps contribute, even a small
amount, we will be able to accomplish our goals.
The first deadline for
contributions is June 1, 2006.
Donations may to divided into three segments if preferred. Individuals,
families and businesses donating at certain levels will be recognized on
a permanent marker at the stadium entrance. Naming rights are still
available for the baseball field, softball field and the new drive
leading to the athletic fields. Donations of any amount will be
greatly appreciated.
